US Forces Targeted a 'Major Facility' in Venezuela, President Trump Stated Lacking Providing Details.

Former President Donald Trump has stated that US military assets struck a "large installation" in Venezuela last week. But, the former president withheld information about the precise nature or site of the target, and officials have issued no further comment from his team.

Vague Comments Offered During a Radio Show

"We just knocked out – I'm not sure if you read – they have a big plant, where the vessels originate. Recently, we took it out. So we hit them decisively," Trump allegedly said to GOP supporter and supermarket owner John Catsimatidis in a recent interview.

Potential Significance of a Verified Attack

Should a US military action is confirmed, it would constitute the initial land strike since the US Department of Defense began a expansion of American strike forces in the region to halt drug traffickers that the Trump administration claims operate under the authority of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

The initial mission of the military buildup has transformed into a blockade aimed at stopping the nation's crude oil shipments.

Social Media Footage and Official Claims

Trump has for some time warned that US forces are poised to escalate the operations by hitting targets within Venezuela, a strategy that would theoretically require legislative approval.

Video footage shared online on 24 December appeared to show an explosion allegedly from an industrial area in a Venezuelan state. Yet, the footage or the facility has not been corroborated.

An administration official allegedly informed a media outlet that the president was describing a drug facility in his comments.

Response and Ongoing Military Posture

The Maduro government has not commented on the event Trump described. Furthermore, there have been no verified accounts from within the country regarding it.

The deployment of American forces in the area – a position certain officials have referred to as a maritime "quarantine" – constitutes the most expansive naval operation of Trump's presidency.

Sources have refrained from labeling the operation as a full blockade, but have acknowledged that around 15,000 service members are stationed across the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico, including a aircraft carrier group, F-35 aircraft, and law enforcement vessels to implement current sanctions.
